About us

We built the platform we kept wishing our lab had

exOtic started inside hearing research, where we watched good data get harder to use with every study: recordings, images and colony records kept in separate places and joined up by hand.

Why exOtic

A single hearing study produces many kinds of data about the same animals: ABR and DPOAE at several timepoints, cochlear images at the end, and a colony behind it all. Each comes off its own instrument with its own file naming, so building a figure often means working out again which mouse, ear and day every number came from.

exOtic keeps that connection from the moment data is uploaded. Every recording, image and count is filed against its cohort, mouse, ear and timepoint, so comparing across them is a question you ask, not a week of spreadsheet work. As omics and more functional measures arrive, they'll land in the same place.

Who we are

René Vielman Quevedo, MD

Founder and CEO

A physician and inner ear researcher, René leads the product and works closely with our partner labs.

James Jankowiak

Founder and CTO

An engineer with 25 years of experience building and running software platforms, James leads engineering and infrastructure.

How we work with labs

  • Your data belongs to your lab. exOtic stores and analyses it on your behalf, and you can export it whenever you like.
  • Labs are kept apart. No other lab can see your data, and nothing leaves your lab without a signed agreement that says what is shared, with whom and why.
  • We build with the people who use it. New features come from working researchers and lab managers, and we test them on the kind of data they collect.
